The United States Submarine Veterans Inc.’s Dorado Base will present their annual Tolling of the Boats ceremony at 1:00 PM on Sunday, October 1, 2023.
The ceremony will be held at the USS Dorado Memorial in Veterans Park.
The ceremony will include a presentation of the Colors, the playing of the National
Anthem, an Invocation, keynote speaker, a reading of all lost US submarines, and
the playing of taps.
The event is open to the public but since seating will be limited, visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

The Wichita Regional Office is Moving!
The Wichita VA Regional Office is moving to a new location effective October 1st, 2023. Open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the new space will include abundant, free parking and large, private interview areas. Please scan the QR code for directions from the Robert J. Exciting news! The crew of the USS Wichita (LCS-13) will be visiting Wichita, October 16-21, 2023. Their “Welcome Home” visit will culminate with a banquet in their honor at the Wichita Aviation Museum, 3350 George Washington Blvd, Wichita on October 20th at 6:00 p.m. The keynote speaker at the banquet will be the Commanding Officer of the USS Wichita, CDR Brett Ringo, USN. Also at the banquet, two members of the USS Wichita crew will each receive a $2,000 educational scholarship from the USS Wichita (LCS-13) Lehrer Family Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund was established by the Lehrer Family to honor Wichita native and longtime PBS news anchor, writer and journalist, Jim Lehrer. Jim’s wife, Kate, served as the ship’s sponsor.

The USS Wichita is a Freedom-class Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) commissioned in January 2019 and homeported today in Mayport, Florida. The Wichita can perform a number of roles including drug interdiction, anti-submarine warfare, and mine countermeasures. The ship is 378 feet in length, can embark one MH-60R Seahawk helicopter, has a top speed of 52 mph, and is manned by 131 sailors. She was built by Lockheed Martin and Marinette Marine at a cost of $362M. Crew members from the USS Wichita (LCS-13) will visit the City of Wichita October 16-21, 2023. During the visit the crew will tour our city, see our sights, and meet our wonderful people. While here they will engage with students, civic leaders, and community members. The ship’s visit is sponsored by the United States Navy League - Wichita Area Council.
